UPCOMING ONLINE EVENTS

Saturday, 8:00-10:00 AM. Allegheny Mennonite Conference (AMC) Fall Assembly: God has led us up an interesting path this year. We rejoice in making Carmen Shenk’s preaching ministry officially. Now, for reasons that we have discussed and upon which we have unanimously agreed, we are asking AMC to consider including Accessible Fellowship in their conference. Our request, presented as a pre-recorded video, will be made tomorrow, Saturday 11/7, at their annual Fall Assembly, held online. All AF folk are invited to attend by Zoom. Please contact Peter for further details.

Sunday, 9:00 AM. SALT & LIGHT: Our Salt and Light lesson is #10, The Glory Departs. The Scripture is I Samuel 4:12-22, and the purpose of the lesson is, “To recognize that God’s power in not something for us to misuse for our own purposes” (Ramirez, p.56). The week’s Spiritual Preparation is to reflect on the difference between “God is on my side” and “Am I on God’s side?”. See p. 56-57.

Sunday, 10:15 AM. WORSHIP: Along with whatever else we do, we will be celebrating our opportunity to approach Allegheny Mennonote Conference about association with them.

Monday, 8:00 AM. KAFFEEKLATSCH: Bring your own coffee!

Wednesday, 7:00 PM. BIBLE STUDY: We continue our study of Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi, starting at Chapter 4.

Thursday evenings, starting in January: Inspired by the prospect of a monthly Thursday evening book club, we are looking at the possibility of designating Thursdays as a Round Robin meeting night. Themes might include hobbies, doctrines, politics, mission, health and healthcare (and insurance), cooking, exercise, wellness, and whatever else seems appropriate.

PETER’S PONDERINGS

Dear Sistren and Brethren,

ELECTION RESULTS

This newsletter is late because, among other reasons, I am struggling with how to react to the results of last Tuesday’s election. Part of my reaction is joy. I have been hoping and praying for some sign that the people of this country have not been well represented and served by our leadership. The popular vote apparently against aggression, greed, grift, graft, hate, and injustice, and lies (in alphabetical order) is heartening. No struggle there, for me.

I am concerned about what “we” are going to do about the election results. As I have said, I try to follow a wide variety of information sources. Among the politically oriented, I see many conservatives are distancing themselves from the current administration on the assumption that the current administration is the problem. Many progressives agree that the current administration is the problem and are rejoicing, a bit giddy with the thought that shackling the current administration will solve their problems.

As the shock of change subsides, thinkers across the spectrum are beginning to ask how “we” should go forward. My own hope for the future is ascendance of the Kingdom of God. For me, the “we” is the Bride of Christ and what “we” should do is strive to follow the example of OUR king. I guess that is what we should be doing all along.

BOOK CLUB

Laurie has already ordered our gently used copy of The Memory of Old Jack, by Wendell Berry.

AMC FALL ASSEMBLY SATURDAY, NOV 7, 8-10 AM

Allegheny Mennonite Conference (AMC) is holding their Fall Assembly tomorrow morning. Carmen and Peter have made a video presenting Accessible Fellowship’s request for association with the conference. If you are interested in watching the assembly but do not yet have the agenda and login information that was emailed earlier this week, please contact Peter for a copy of the Assembly’s agenda and Zoom login information.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

Cathy is researching material for an Advent-aware Wednesday night Bible study. Also, we have the excellent suggestion of a Christmas carol sing.

MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT

Don’t forget that the deadline for making changes to your Medicare plan is December 7. The best place to start your research is www.medicare.gov.

LOTS ON MEDICARE, NOT MUCH ON PEDIATRICS

In a hugely encouraging shift, persons younger than us came to the polls and let their voices be heard. Anyone listening can hear their concern about war, intolerance, justice, freedom. What can we do to minister to a younger crowd?

Accessible Fellowship is benefiting greatly from the resources provided by Riverside Anabaptist Collective. You can view information on Riverside Anabaptist Collective content at www.riversideanabaptist.com and view select content on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/@RiversideAnabaptistCollective

We encourage Christians to worship in community. For most, this means an in-person gathering. For some, however, an in-person gathering is not possible. If you cannot physically attend community worship and a streamed service seems cold and distant, Accessible Fellowship offers an alternative. Yes, we do stream some components of our gatherings, but we also spend plenty of time in personal “Zooming” fellowship. Regardless of the reason you can’t attend church, whether a one-time blizzard or a long term situation, we would love to have you join us.
